2016 ATC Oaks Considered for Risque

Connections of the now David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained New Zealand Group 1 winner Risque are considering an ATC Oaks 2016 bid in Sydney this autumn for the recent Lindsay Park stable acquisition.

A three-year-old daughter of Darci Brahma formerly prepared by Stephen Autridge, Risque was last seen taking out the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton Park on November 14.

That one and a quarter length victory in elite level company was her final New Zealand run, the filly transferring to the Lindsay Park stables in Melbourne of Hayes & Dabernig this week.

“She had some time in the paddock and has been on the walker before going back into full work, but Dick (Karreman – owner) has made the decision to send her to David Hayes,” The Oaks Stud general manager Rick Williams told The Informant.

“I can understand his reasoning – there are so many opportunities for her over there. It’s called reality.”

Autridge was upset to lose a class filly from his care but also understood where the real opportunities for connections lay.

“When you’re talking the country’s leading filly it hurts, but you’ve just got to cop it,” he admitted.

He is still in possession of New Zealand’s top three-year-old, Pentire colt Xtravagant winner of the NZ 2000 Guineas, who is on track for the Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) at Trentham on January 16 before also possibly targeting the autumn riches down under.

Williams said confirmed summer – autumn racing plans for dual stakes winning filly Risque were still being discussed but that the a possible run in the Group 1

(2400m) at Randwick Racecourse in April during The Championships was a possibility.

“Whether she’s prepared for the ATC Oaks or perhaps the South Australian Oaks or the Queensland three-year-old races that will be up to David to decide once he gets her going,” he said.

The Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m), or Schweppes Oaks, runs at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide in early May while the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) takes place in Brisbane at the end of the same month during the Winter Carnival.
