Due to jump as Race 6 at 2:35pm (AEST) on The Championships Day 2, this season’s $1 million James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks (2400m) odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are all about the visiting NZ Oaks winner Bonneval.

The Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained daughter of Makfi has been backed in from $4 to $3.50 in the Australian Oaks markets to post her fourth win on the trot in her first run down under.

Last start she handled the 2400m to win the Group 1 NZ Oaks and she is out to frank that form in the ATC Oaks field this weekend with the race’s three-time winning hoop Hugh Bowman aboard.

The big challengers come out of the Vinery Stud Stakes with the runner-up Nurse Kitchen ($5.50) and third placed Harlow Gold ($5) who should eat-up the extra metres based on her Crown Oaks second in the spring.

Earlier we published a comprehensive 2017 ATC Oaks Form Guide & Betting Preview, our insider tips on the race below based on the facts and statistics uncovered in that.

1st

#3 Bonneval ($3.50)

Favourites in Australian Oaks betting have a poor record with just the one win in the past decade, but there is plenty to like about this Kiwi raider coming off the NZ Oaks win. The New Zealand three-year-old staying form always stacks up in the autumn in Sydney including in last year’s ATC Oaks when Sofia Rosa improved on a NZ Oaks second. Baker won his fourth ATC Derby last Saturday and now chases the double with this in-form filly who Bowman is keen to get aboard.

2nd

#6 Devise ($8)

One in all in. Happy to back the NZ form to be franked here with their Oaks runner-up Devise also a big chance to bring her consistent form to Australia with another Group 1 placing. She was only a half-length off Bonneval over these metres on March 18 after a tough run from barrier 15 of 16. She’s got the highest Place Rate (75%) of this field and is drawn a treat in barrier nine with Damien Oliver in the saddle. Nothing to suggest she won’t produce again so long as she handles the wet track.

3rd

#5 Harlow Gold ($5)

It shapes-up as a really open ATC Oaks when it comes to picking just three. So many have claims including the Crown Oaks winner from the spring Lasqueti Spirit ($8.50). Runner-up to her in that 2500m classic at Flemington though was this Lindsay Park-trained daughter of Tavistock who is bred to stay, can handle a Heavy track and is out to improve on the Vinery Stud Stakes third. Gets the extra distance here and was eye-catching last time out. Drawn wide but time to overcome. Can finish strongly.
